Don't Let Change Derail Your Projects

Ever been put on the spot about your change management approach? I recently was, and it made me realize something: while we often ace project management, we might not be as articulate about the change side of things.

Let's dive into a few powerful change management frameworks I've used, and why they matter:

1. Kotter's 8-Step Process

  • When it's perfect: When the culture's ready for change, but leadership needs to ignite that spark and make it last.

  • The win: Gets everyone on board, excited, and committed for the long haul.

2. McKinsey 7-S Framework

  • When it's perfect: Mergers & Acquisitions - blending different cultures and systems seamlessly.

  • The win: Creates a new, unified whole that's even stronger than the individual parts.

3. ADKAR Model

  • When it's perfect: When you need buy-in at every level, from individuals to teams.

  • The win: Change happens from the inside out, so people own it and drive its success.

These aren't the only tools in the toolbox, but they're my go-to's for making change stick.

Why Change Management Matters - Always

Whether it's a big transformation, a tech upgrade, or a culture shift, change impacts people. And when people are on board, the whole project wins.

Remember this: Before you pick a framework, truly understand the problem, the people, the culture, and where the gaps are. That's how you choose the right tool for the job.
