Are You Already Paying for Change Management?
In any organization, change is essential for growth and relevance. Many leaders overlook the fact that, whether we acknowledge it or not, we are already paying for change management in various ways.
Objections are expected when focusing on something that feels unknown or outside of the daily workflow. Here are some common objections you might hear (or have said) regarding Change Management:
It's an additional cost.
There's a lack of time or resources.
It's just a 'feel good' initiative.
Cost of Change Management (or Lack Thereof)
Regardless of whether the payment is visible or lost revenue, there is always a cost associated with change. I typically categorize these costs in three buckets:
Strong leaders: You pay for experienced people who incorporate change into their day-to-day operations.
Hiring: Investing internally or externally to focus on managing change and equipping your teams with the necessary skills.
Lack of either: You may pay through missed opportunities and not maximizing your teams' potential.
To be the best steward for your company, actively align with its growth and utilization of available resources to positively incorporate Change Management. Avoiding decisions about Change Management may prevent your company from reaching its full potential. Don't we all want to be positive forces?
Be the Change Maker:
Talk about change and how it impacts you and your teams. You don't need to know any fancy terms — just remember that we are all human. We want to be heard and add value, so take the first step: listen and understand where people are coming from.
This approach extends beyond your work environment. It can be applied in every aspect of your life to create a positive impact. Have you taken steps to be a Change Maker? Share your experiences with me — I'd love to hear how you're making a positive impact!
